Ethiopia: East Africa Bottling to Introduce New Bottled Water Brand

East African Bottling Company is going to introduce brand bottled water, Dasani, to the Ethiopian market.

Dasani was first introduced in the United States of America in 1999 and gradually made its way to other markets. It is now being served in 34 countries all over the world.

Now ready to enter the Ethiopian market, the bottled water is set to come in half a litter and 1.5 liters bottle. It will be produced in the existing combo line production- a two line production that can be used for both water and soft drink production.

Commenting on the combo line East Africa’s Brand Manager, Misikir Mulugeta, said;”has the capacity to fill 36,000 bottles an hour”.

According to Fortune, East Africa is going to get the water from three boreholes, which it also uses to supply water for its soft drink production.

Currently there are 32 bottled water brands in Ethiopia, yet it is only six of them that have acquired certificate for conformity to the standards set. This makes Dasani the seventh bottled water brand to acquire the certificate.

Ministry of Trade adopted mandatory standards for 57 products and bottled mineral water is among one of them.

East Africa is currently importing performs to make the bottles for the packaging. A local firm might be contracted this task, Miskir commented.

According to Fortune, the half liter will be sold for seven birr at stores while the 1.5 liter is set to be sold for 12 Birr.

Misikir speculated, “There is a growing demand for high quality bottled water in Ethiopia, and we are confident that the Dasini meets the growing consumer need”.
