Ethiopia Aims to Collect U.S. $ 2.2 Billion from Manufacturing Sector

Ahmed Abtew, Minister of Industry, disclosed the aim by Ethiopia for the current fiscal regarding the manufacturing sector is to get U.S. $ 2.2 Billion.

The Minister disclosed this during a meeting with manufacturing stakeholders. During the meeting, some manufacturers asked the government to bridge some gaps in its bureaucracy to boost productivity.

During the 2013/2014 fiscal year, the sector underperformed and some challenges the sector it faced during this period are raw material shortage, problems with good governance and shortage of electricity.

Ahmed noted during the meeting that the government is working to address the above issues. He furthered several activities geared towards producing raw materials and industrial inputs locally have been launched that aim to save up to U.S. $21 Million in foreign exchange.

The stakeholders that attended the meeting reaffirmed their commitment towards achieving the goal by working together and resolving the challenges.
