Ethiopia: Lion Bank’s President Resigned from Office

lionbankNegusu Gebregziabher, President of Lion International Bank S.C. (LIB), resigned from his post. He is the third bank president to resign from his post in the last two weeks.

Following the vacuum in the top post, Operations Vice President, Getachew Solomon, was appointed as the acting president of the bank by the Bank’s board of directors.

The acting president’s resume reveals he attended Mekelle University for his undergraduate studies and has a degree in accounting from the university. As to his graduate studies he went to England and studied Business Administration specializing in International Business at the Greenwich University.

He has been in the banking industry for the past 19 years and started this career in Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE). He has worked at different positions and worked as a clerk, corporate communication, branch manager and district manager.

Negusu on his part graduated from Addis Ababa University (AAU) in economics for his undergraduate studies and secured his Master’s Degree from Greenwich in Business Administration, specializing in International Business.

Just like his successor, Negusu has worked at CBE. He worked at CBE for 18 years at different positions including vice president, branch manager and district manager.

In the past two weeks Abyssinia Bank’s and Debub Global Bank’s presidents resigned from their top posts.

Negusu was the third president for LIB and took office in May 2010. His predecessor was Meressa Gebremariam and the he took over from Tsegaye Tetmeke.

Lion International Bank S.C. was established in October 2006 and officially inaugurated in January 2007. It had 6,392 shareholders and 200 Million Birr paid up capital.
