Inaugurating the new Humbo-Arbaminch Road, Prime Minister Hailem Mariam Desalegn noted the road will boost the investment taking place in the area.
On the occasion the Premier said, development of infrastructure facilities will foster flow of tourist as well as investment to the area. He further explained the road will help farmers get access to market.
According to the Ethiopian News Agency, there will be activities to connect Arbaminch Airport with other airports in order to create easy access to the horticulture and floriculture products the area is well known for.
Samson Wondimu, Ethiopian Roads Authority Communication Director, told noted topography of the area did pose a problem during the road construction.
The project has lagged two years from schedule and it cost Ethiopia 825 Million Birr. Yet the estimated out lay of the road was 400 Million Birr.
The newly inaugurated road is 75 kilometers, which is out of the total 106 kilometers.
According to Samson the remaining 31 kilometers will be completed by the end of the current year.
