For its campuses in the Amhara State capital, Bahir Dar University (BDU) is looking for local as well as international firms that can hire for what it calls Conceptual Campus Masterplan Design. The masterplan is needed for the central cluster of the University’s campuses.
According to Moges Abraha, acting vice president for Information and Strategic Communication at BDU, the aim of the conceptual master plan is to integrate the university’s future development projects.
Integrating the future development projects at BDU, which includes expansion works, is said to be the main target behind the new conceptual plan.
Moges noted the first phase of the project is going to incorporate five of the nine campuses. These five campuses are namely; the main campus, the Bahir Dar Technology Institute, the Ethiopian Textile and Fashion Design Institute, the president's office, and the Business and Economics College.
The University’s enrollment, which is conventionally determined by the interest of the Ministry of Education, upon completion of the masterplan design will be based on the new masterplan.
Moges furthered, the competition has already been offered to local consulting architectural firms who can establish a consortium with foreign firms that are experienced in design works related to university masterplan preparations or other projects of similar complexity.
In addition to this, the design is expected to serve for a minimum of period of a decade.
