Ethiopia: Addis Ababa’s Light Rail System Management to Be Contracted

During a pre bid meeting on Monday, June 30, 2014, Ethiopian Railway Corporation pronounced it is looking forward to establish an international system which will enhance operation and maintenance works.

The meeting was organized for eight international companies that showed interest to take part in the bid for taking over the management of Addis Ababa Light Rail System Operations and Maintenance.

It was for the purpose of making the system efficient and reliable the government decided the management to be made by an international standard management.

According to the Ethiopian Railway Corporation CEO, Dr. Getachew Betru, the meetng was organized for the purpose of elucidating questions and comments from the bidders.

Getachew added the eight companies can use the information they have gathered during the meeting as inputs to make amendments to their technical and financial proposal.

Transport State Minister, Getachew Mengste, for his part indicated the railway construction is being carried out in line with the schedule.

The winner of the bid is said to manage the railway for at least five years.
