Ethiopia: ERA Concluded 2.6 Billion Birr Agreement with CCCC

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) concluded a 2.6 Billion Birr road construction and Omo Kuraz Sugar Factory designing projects agreement with the Chinese Construction Company Limited (CCCC) on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. The project is said to include constructing roads, Omo-Factory Junction 4 and 6, designing Omo Kuraz sugar factory, and constructing a bridge over the Omo River.

The intention behind constructing F6 Junction -F4 Junction and Omo -F6 Junction roads is to provide free movement of traffic which will enhance distributing sugar and other products from the factories to the rest of the country.

The F6 Junction – F4 Junction is said to be 60.7 Kilometers and constructed with Double Bituminous Surface Treatment (DBST). On the other hand the Omo – F6 Junction Road is going to be 41.7 Kilometers constructed with asphalt concrete. Both of them are going to be 10 Meters wide.

In addition to this the two roads are believed to trigger the development of the surrounding area’s agricultural and livestock products.

During the occasion ERA’s Director General, Zaid Wolde Gebriel, commented the construction of the two roads is one of the top development endeavor’s the nation is carrying out for the purpose of developing sugar factories.

The Director General added the projects are aimed at linking the sugar factories that are already under construction and those to be constructed. 

In addition to this Zaid said upgrade work for Ariba Minch – Jinka road should also be done since it is this root for the sugar factories. 

CCCC’s representative Zhou Yongeshng for his part commented his company will try to deliver the projects before the deadline. 

According to the Ethiopian Herald the projects are going to be delivered in 36 months while they are going to be funded by the Federal Government.
