DHL to Planning to Build Facility in Ethiopia

dhlWhile having discussions with the Ethiopian Airlines and Ethiopian Airports Enterprise, DHL announced its plans to build a world class facility within the premises of the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Managing Director of DHL Express Sub Saharan Africa, Charles Brewer, said his company is looking for a potential location. He said once the necessary contracts are concluded his company will commence construction.

According to Brewer matters are taking longer than they anticipated. Yet, he added, they respect the environment they are functioning in and his company is determined to invest in Ethiopia.

“Ethiopian Airlines and Ethiopian Airports Enterprise have their own stand of what they want and where they want us to be. We are trying to make sure we find a marriage that works. It is going to be a big investment, millions of dollars. We don’t put up that kind of money unless we are sure it is a good investment,” the Managing Director added.

The logistics company is currently upgrading all it’s infrastructure found in several African nations and its planned investment in Ethiopia is part of the expansion. Once the facility to be built in Ethiopia is completed, it is expected to feature a service center and a country office.

According to Capital, DHL has stated East Africa and Ethiopia are key regions for its growth within the Sub-Sahara Africa.

DHL Express Ethiopia Country Manager, Essete Gebriel, expressed her appreciation of her company’s work in the last quarter, which she said is the reflection of Ethiopia’s economic development and her company’s passion for the business to take it forward.

Essete further noted DHL is working to increase connectivity for Small and Micro Enterprises by aiding them to understand the paperwork, legislation and expertise needed to grow beyond the Ethiopia border.
