LG Opened a TVET College in Ethiopia

lgLG Electronics Corporation is set to open a TVET College in Ethiopia in collaboration with Korean International Cooperation Agency (KICA) and World Together (WT). The institution is named LG Hope TVET College and it is expected to be opened in November.

The construction of the college which is being carried out in Addis, around Summit area, will be ready for class by September. Along side to this various manuals such as legislation, administrative counseling manual and strategy plan are already developed.

According to the Executive Vice President of LG Corp, Dr. Young-Kee Kim, his company has contributed a lot to the rapid development of Korea after its establishment in 1947. He continued and told journalists his company would like to share its experience with Ethiopia via LG Hope TVET College.

Young-Kee also pointed out for the Ethiopia society to achieve economic development, the nation’s industrial sector must develop. He furthered, “Appropriate cultivation of the human resource focusing on the young people is a key factor is a key factor in the success of the development of the industrial sector”.

LG’s sustainable support to the entire process of equipping the trainees with a higher level creativity in the IT and electronics was reflected by Young-Kee.

Bezuneh Debebe, Director of Occupation Standard Development and Assessment Directorate, on his part appreciated the government’s determination to the TVET programme and presented as evidence the fact that the number of TVET colleges in the past eight years has reached 600 from only 12.

Nonetheless, Bezuneh did not retain from admitting there are challenges to the sector. He mentioned lack of right trainers, management and budget (when it comes to new programmes) as some of the constraints of the sector. He furthered trainers should be equipped with required skills.

Upon completion in September and commencing class in November, the College is expected to enroll 75 students every year. The students are expected to be trained in Level III and they will pay a reasonable fee as the Institution should support itself. In addition to this, Herald wrote, the Colleges is said to be the best in academic and training centers of technology transfer and innovation.
