Ethiopia: Codeshare Agreement Concluded between Ethiopian and Austrian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines and Austria Airlines concluded a codeshare partnership agreement effective since Monday, June 2, 2014, Walta Information Center reported.

It was on the same day that the partnership became effective Ethiopian started a direct flight to Vienna. The partnership agreement is expected to give great connectivity options for the customers of the two airlines.

According to Ethiopian, Austria will market Ethiopian’s flights to Vienna and African destinations and Ethiopian on it’s part will market Austria’s flight to Amsterdam, Geneva, Prague, Warsaw, Zurich, Leipzig and Munich.

Austria has a strong network in Central and Eastern Europe. And Ethiopian using the agreement intends to provide seamless and convenient connectivity options for travelers between Africa and cities in Central and Eastern Europe.

On the other hand Austria customers will also benefit from the agreement by getting a seamless and smooth connectivity to different destinations in Africa via Ethiopian gateway.

Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of Ethiopian, appreciated the agreement made with another airlines that is a fellow Star Alliance member. He personally thanked his counterpart at the Austria, Jaan Albrech, the management and staff of the Airlines that contributed to the conclusion of the agreement.

Tewolde further noted, “This agreement will enable our two carriers to greatly expand our market reach and to offer wider choice of destinations to our customers travelling between Africa and cities in Central and Eastern Europe".

Albrech on his part commented the agreement will from now on enable his company to offer optimal connecting flights to Ethiopian customers in particular within Central and Eastern Europe. He also admitted his Airlines will benefit from the new direct connection to Addis Ababa.
