The Ethiopian Airlines announced it starteda direct flight service to the capital of Austria, Vienna. This will bring the number of Ethiopian’s destination in Europe to nine and it‘s total destination to 82.

Vienna is political capital, a major diplomatic center and the seat for two United Nation’s agencies; United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). It is also the economic hub of Austria.

According to the Airlines’ press release, Ethiopian is planning to extend a seamless and convenient option for its customers to travel between Africa and European cities by collaborating with Austrian Airlines.

The Airlines CEO, Tewolde Gebremariam, said "We are very happy to spread our wings to Vienna, which is one of the most popular convention and conference centers in Europe. In addition to serving the growing travel needs between Vienna and Africa, we will be able to offer efficient connections between Africa and Central/Eastern Europe in cooperation with our Star Alliance partner, Austrian Airlines. Europe, which is still the largest trading partner of Africa, is an important region for us".

Through its press release Ethiopian claimed the new flights to Vienna are scheduled with a view to provide to Ethiopian customers convenient connections, with minimum layover in Addis Ababa, to 49 African destinations.
