Ethiopia: Fincha Expansion Project Set to Double Production Capacity

Fincha Sugar Factory is undertaking expansion work to double it’s production capacity, Ethiopian News Agency reported.

The factory currently produces 1.1 Million quintals of sugar and eight Million liters of Ethanol a year. Upon completion of the expansion work, the factory expects a production of 2.1 Million quintals of sugar and 20 Million Liters of Ethanol per annum. In addition to this, Fincha is cultivating sugarcane on 11,700 Hectares.

This has pushed the total area cultivated with sugarcane to reach 21,000 Hectares.

According to the Ethiopian News Agency the power that Fincha is producing to meet its demand is seven megawatt. However, when the current expansion project is over it will be able to produce 31 Megawatt. This is expected to cover its power demand and enable it to supply 10 Megawatt to the national grid system.

Fincha is the oldest sugar factory in Ethiopia as well as the first sugar factory to install an Ethanol plant with a production capacity of 45,000 Liters per day.

By the end of the first phase of the Growth and Transformation Plan, Fincha plans to produce 270,000 Tons of sugar and 20,000 cubic Liter of Ethanol.
