Ethiopia: CCECC Started Laying Rail Tracks for Meiso-Dewale Project

cceccChina Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has starter laying rail tracks for the 339 Kilometers portion of railway project extending from Meiso to the border town of Dewale in Djibouti.

During a ceremony that was held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, Yuan Li, General Manager of CCECC, said the railway project is expected to comply with Chinese standards and that tracks, trains and signal systems will all made in China, according to The Reporter.

The railway project which will connect Addis Ababa with Djibouti is expected to be completed by 2015. The railway which stretch 740 Kilometers is estimated to cost four billion U.S., dollars.

The completion of the project will reduce the cost of transportation and traveling time to seven hours running at at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
