Ethiopia: Construction on Roads Linking the Addis-Adama Expressway with Addis Ababa Launched

Construction of two road projects linking the Addis Ababa-Adama expressway with Addis Ababa city in two directions was launched, the Ethiopian Roads Authority said.

The Authority said in a press release that Akaki-IT Park/Goro/ and Akaki-Lebu roads covering 28.1 Km are being undertaken at a cost of more than 4.6 billion Ethiopian birr.

The 14.5 Km Akaki-IT Park (Goro) project links the Addis Ababa-Adama highway with the Eastern and North Eastern part of Addis Ababa, while the 13.6 Km Akaki- Lebu road will connect the road with Western and North Western Addis Ababa, according to Ethiopian News Agency.

The construction of the roads which will have six lanes includes construction of six big bridges, four interchanges and a railway crossing, among others.

Some 75 percent of the total cost for construction of the roads will be financed by the China EXIM Bank, while the remaining amount will be covered by government of Ethiopia.

The projects are scheduled to be completed within 33 months.
