Metals and Engineering Corporation (METEC) and Addis Ababa University Institute of Technology yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for consultancy service on the construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam (GRD).
According to the agreement, the Institute would provide METEC with a consultancy service on the Electromechanical and Hydro-mechanical, Steel Structure Interface with civil works, and other aspects of the project.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, AAU President Dr. Admasu Tsegaye said the agreement is going to provide an opportunity for the university to develop its capacity and thereby actively take part in major project that the country would embark on in the future.
Dr. Admasu also said the university is under reform to engage in research works that helps to solve industry problems, thereby harnessing university-industry nexus.
Noting the immense role of METEC in national development endeavor particularly in realization of GRD, Deputy Director General, Brigadier General Tena Kurunde said, partnership with local academic and research institutions will assist the corporation to enhance its capacity, since the corporation is actively working on electromechanical and hydro mechanical steel structure part of the project.
He also said that the active and meaningful participation of the AAU in the GRD project would motivate other universities in the country to take part in other mega government projects.
