Ethio Telecom Reported Over 7 Billion Birr Revenue in the First Half of FY 2013/14

ethio teleEthio telecom reported over seven billion birr revenue in the first half of the fiscal year, according to Fortune.

The revenue increased by 12.4 percent compared to a year earlier, however, the Corporation missed its target for the reported period by 9 percent, the state owned corporation said during a press conference held on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at its headquarters.

Out of the total revenue, 67 percent was earned from mobile telephone services, while 16 percent came from international calls, and about 10 percent was earned from data and Internet services.

The number of ethio telecom’s customers has also reached 27.1 million, with 26.2 million mobile subscribers, Abdurahim Ahmed, corporate communications director at ethio telecom said. Over 20 million are active, according to data from the previous two months, he said.

The increase in the number of subscribers also represents 65 percent achievement of the Growth & Transformation Plan (GTP) target for mobile subscribers. Data and internet subscribers reached 4.6 million, 123 percent of the GTP target, Abdurahim said.

The state owned, ethio telecom is aiming to expand the capacity of the current network infrastructure to support 39 million additional mobile subscribers. It is also planning to introduce 4G network capabilities in Addis Ababa and 3G networks in major regional towns.
