Ethiopia: City Bus Rapid Transit Pilot Project Feasibility Study nearing Completion

The Addis Ababa City Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) pilot project feasibility study is nearing finalization, Ethiopian Press Agency reported citing the City Roads and Transport Bureau.

“We are very much dedicated for the full operation of the Bus Rapid Transit Project as soon as possible.” Bureau Deputy Head Tibletse Asegidom said at a relevant workshop held yesterday in Addis Ababa.

“To achieve this plan, we are working to establish a new Bus Rapid Transit Company which would be run either based on public-private partnership or fully public owned", she added.

The bureau is working to make the project feasible within three years time, according to Tibletse.

“We are about to finalize the 8-kms Gofa Gabriel -Merkato Bus Terminal BRT pilot project feasibility and operational study. This corridor is selected because of the existence of high number of passengers", Tibletse said.

Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor Office Head Asegid Getachew also said, the City Administration, in collaboration with other key institutions is committed to bring about an integrated sustainable, environmental friendly and effective urban transport service over the coming few years.
