Hawassa University Technology Institute said it is undertaking an expansion project at a cost of 500 million Ethiopian birr to increase its enrollment capacity and quality of education, Ethiopian News Agency reported.

The Institute's Deputy Director Dr. Moltot Zewde told Ethiopian News Agency that the project is being carried out in two phases. The expansion project includes construction of classrooms, laboratories, dining rooms and administrative offices, among others.

Moltot said the expansion project is expected to be finalized in July 2014. The expansion will increase the enrollment capacity of the Institute to 14,000 from the current 1,500.
