The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) launched its "Measuring the Information Society 2013 Report" in Ethiopia yesterday, November 6, 2013.

International Telecommunication Union Regional Office Director Andrew Rugege said, the report provides tangible information and features of the ICT development at international level. It measures the trend of ICT through applying indicators agreed among the member countries.

Andrew also noted that this year's report shows that the future is bright for Africa in terms of ICT development, because there is massive infrastructural facilities underway in the continent with a growing number of ICT professionals.

The ITU issues the MIS report annually since 2009, featuring two bench marking tools to measure the information society: the ICT Development Index (IDI) and the ICT Price Basket (IPB).
