Ethiopia: PPESA Privatization Auctions Fails to Attract Bidders

Ghion Hotel and other four state-owned enterprises put up for sale by the Ethiopian Privatization and Public Enterprises Supervising Agency (PPESA) have failed to attract bidder, Fortune reported.

In addition to Ghion Hotel, PPESA has also floated Weyra Transport S.C, Transport Construction Design S.C, Agricultural Mechanization Service Enterprise and Artistic Printing Enterprise. All enterprises except Weyra Transport has been on the privatization auction block previously.

The privatization tender was floated on August 21, 2013, stayed open for 43 days, and was then extended for an additional two weeks, according to Fortune.

“Not even a single bidder bought the bid document from us,” said Asebe Kebede, deputy communication head with PPESA.

During the previous fiscal year, PPESA has transferred a total of 312 government owned enterprises to privet owners.
