The Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA) announced, it has collected 25.3 billion Ethiopian birr revenue from various income titles during the first quarter of the current Ethiopian Fiscal Year, ERTA reported.

Education and communication director with the Authority, Efrem Mekonen told the press on Saturday that the sum was obtained from domestic tax, foreign trade and lottery sales.

Efrem said the revenue which is lower than the targeted 26.3 billion birr, however, exceeded the amount collected during the same period last year by three billion birr.

Owing to awareness raising activities and enforcement measures taken by the Authority, the number of taxpayers who use sales registration machines is on the rise, Efrem said.

Nearly 5,000 taxpayers have started to use sales registration machines during the reported period.

ERCA is targeting to collect a total of 116 billion birr revenue during the current fiscal year.
