Discussion on Commercialization of Appropriate Technologies held in Ethiopia

A round table of public partnership in developing commercialization of appropriate technologies was held at Sheraton Addis on October 22, 2013.

The event was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office (EIPO) and with the assistance of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).

Speaking on the occasion Science and Technology Minister Demitu Hambissa said, “With the intention of fully applying appropriate technologies we need to visibly understand the challenges our communities encounter in their daily lives. Accordingly, national innovation plans need to be positioned based on the societal development demands and problem solving orientation”.

The event was aimed to share experiences from experienced countries like Ghana, Zambia and Republic of Korea those who has worked on technologies transfer with WIPO.

Papers were presented on the challenges of responding to local needs of appropriate technologies, identification of national needs in appropriate technologies, the development of appropriate technologies, and national policies and strategies of Ethiopia with regard to appropriate technologies.
