China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC), the company contracted for the Addis Ababa Light Rail Transit Project, has began laying overpass bridges, Walta Information Center reported.

Construction of the 34 km electric light rail project includes six overpass bridges in various sections and an underground tunnel on the north end.

CREC began assembling the overpass bridge at ‘section five’ near Gotera area. The precast concrete bridges are prepared at a mixing plant, set up by CREC, inside Arategna Kifle Tor.

According to Behailu Sentayehu, project manager, a total of five hundred concrete bridges will be assembled the same way. “Assembling the bridges in various sections will continue until May next year,” Behailu said. The CREC is planning to finalize civil works and commence electro-mechanical works, including track laying and building of power sub-stations this year.
