Ethiopia: 26m Birr Public Park Nears Completion

The Addis Ababa city's Beautification, Park & Cemetery Development & Administration Agency announced that 95pc of the construction of a 12,000sqm public park in Lideta district, has been completed, Fortune reported.

The park which is designed by K2N Architecture & Engineering Consultancy PLC and constructed by Koracon Construction, will cost a total of 26 million Ethiopian birr. The project is fully-funded by the Addis Abeba City Administration.

“We believe the entire project, including the park and another four green areas in the neighborhood, will be open to the public by May 2014,” said Alem Gizaw, an official at the Agency. “The park will be the first modern park in the country.”

Construction on the remaining five percent is expected to be completed within six months.

Currently 14 parks are under construction in the city, which will bring the number of public parks to 22.
