Ethiopia: MoI set US$1.3 Billion Earning Target from Export of Industrial Products

The Ethiopian Ministry of Industry announced its earning target from export of industrial products during the current Ethiopian Fiscal Year.

The Ministry unveiled its target of earning US$1.3 billion from the sector at a press briefing on the performance of the last Ethiopian Fiscal Year and action plan for the current fiscal year.

Export of textile and garment, leather and leather products, agro-processing, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, are the major export items the Ministry is hoping to achieve its target.

Industry Minister, Ahmed Abtew, said the plan is designed taking into consideration performance during the last three years. He said lack of quality of products and skilled human power as well low productivity were the major challenges in the manufacturing sector. Ahmed said activities will be carried out to narrow the gaps through creating skilled human power and linking micro and small-scale enterprises with medium and large industries.

Creation of market linkage, ensuring quality of products, finance, and logistics services will be the major areas the Ministry will focus on during the current fiscal year, Ahmed added.
