Ethiopia: ESLSE Recieved Seventh of the Nine ordered Vessels

Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise, the state-owned shipping and logistics company receieved- the Jigjiga, the seventh vessele of the nine new vessels it ordered, at the Port of Djibouti in the presence of senior governmet officials last week.

Officials at the enterprise have also indicated that the remaining two vessels will not arrive in Djibouti until October.

 

With the rise in the number of vehicles being imported into the country, the enterprise is also considering to buy RoRo cargo vessels, Capital reported. The enterprise uses vessels from other shipping lines’ to transport vehicles to and from the port of Djibouti. However, Ahmed Tusa CEO of the enterprise told Capital that while the number of imported vehicles is increasing, the enterprise is not ready to buy the RoRo vessels in this fiscal year.

“We will not buy RoRo vessels anytime soon but we are considering the private sector to involve on the transportation of vehicles,” Ahmed said.

The Export-Import Bank of China financed 80 percent of the cost of purchasing the Chinese built oil and multipurpose cargo vessels costing US$293.5 million three years ago.
