Ethiopian Coffee Conference to be held in November

The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) is to hold Ethiopian Coffee Conference in November 2013. Anteneh Assefa, CEO of Ethiopian Commodity Exchange, said November’s coffee conference will bring together stakeholders and promote Ethiopian coffee. Details of the event are still being finalized.

Coffee is believed to be originated in Ethiopia. The country mainly produces coffee Arabica species, known for their superior quality.

Though revenues from coffee exports have improved in recent years, Ethiopia still does not earn as much from exporting coffee as it should. In 2010/11, the country earned more than US$840 million from the export of 200,000 tonnes of coffee.

The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange – the first of its kind in Africa – is credited with helping grow the country’s coffee exports.
