Ethiopia: City Administration Commissions Design of New Cinema Hall

The Addis Ababa Cinema House Administration has awarded Skyline Consulting Architects & Engineers PLC., for the design of a new cinema hall building, with a contract value of 2.5 million Ethiopian birr, on July 16, 2013.

Located at Senga Terra, in Lideta Sub-city, the cinema hall will be housed within 2,473 square seven-storey building. In addition to cinema halls, the building will also include studio for film makers, according to Getachew Zeru, General Manger of the the Cinema Houses Administration.

"The largest cinema hall will accommodate between 800 and 1,000 people" Getachew said.

Construction is expected to be commenced in the first quarter of the current Ethiopian Fiscal Year.

The Administration has allocated 50 million birr for the project, however, the amount could change based on Skyline's estimations.

The Addis Ababa Cinema Houses Administration was established 20 years ago after the dissolution of the Film Corporation. The Administration currently supervises Cinema Ethiopia, Cinema Empire and Ambassador Cinema.
