Saudi Cargo Planing to Transport Meat from Ethiopia

Saudi Cargo has announced plans to start transporting meat from Ethiopia to Europe by the end of 2013. It has selected five Ethiopian exporters; Hashim Nuru Slaughter, Luna Expert Slaughter House, Modjo Modern Export, Elfora Agro Industry and Export and Organic Abattoir Slaughter for the operation.

The companies already have a business relation with Saudi Cargo and are selected  for their performance in exporting meat to Saudi Arabia, according to Kassahun Kenna,  Cargo Sales Manager with Saudi Cargo.

Until recently, Ethiopian Airlines was the only airline transporting meat from Ethiopia to the Middle East. Saudi Cargo started transporting meat five years ago and it is looking to expand, according to Kassahun.

President of the Ethiopian Meat Exporters Association, Tamrat Ejigu, said, “I haven’t seen such a thing before and giving recognition and rewarding people for what they are doing encourages them to do more,”.

The President of the Ethiopian Meat Exporters Association, Tamrat Ejigu, said the contracts will act as an incentive for exporters, thereby contributing to Ethiopian development.
“I haven’t seen such a thing before and giving recognition and rewarding people for what they are doing encourages them to do more,” he said.

In 2012, Saudi Cargo has transported more than two million kilograms of cargo. Saudi Cargo is represented in Ethiopia by its General Sales Agent (GSA), Cabey Plc, a private trading house owned by Seid Hussein Al Amoudi.
