MoUCD to Establish Ethiopian Construction Project Management Institute

The Ethiopian Ministry of Urban Development & Construction (MoUCD) has drafted a regulation to establish the Ethiopian Construction Project Management Institute.

The draft regulation, which will be submitted to the Council of Ministers in few weeks time, is said to ensure the effective implementation of construction projects in Ethiopia.

“Because we need the Institution urgently, we are expecting the regulation to be ratified within the next month,” said Hailemeskel Tefera, state minister for the MoUDC, at the final discussion organized by the Ministry with stakeholders, on Tuesday, June 18, 2013.

The Institutes's task will be initiating policy and action plans that facilitate the building of competitive construction project management and identifying gaps within the current construction project management.

It will also have the responsibility of facilitating the certification of construction project management professionals, according to the draft regulation.

The idea of establishing the Ethiopian Construction Project Management Institute emerged in December 2010, along with the Construction Industry Council (CIC). The draft proclamation for the establishment of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) is now in its final stage.
