Ethiopia has earned US$419 million from export of minerals supplied by artisanal miners in the 11 months of the current Ethiopian Fiscal Year, according to the Ministry of Mines.
The earning is 30 percent short of the Ministry’s revised projection for the period.Export of gold takes up the largest share of Ethiopia's export earning, generating US$409.1 million. Export of gemstones and tantalum generated US$9.3 and US$1.6 million, respectively, according to Ministry of Mine’s 11 month performance report. Artisanal miners also supplied 7878.3 kg of gold to the National Bank of Ethiopia.
