Netherlands to Assist Ethiopia to Become competitive in Sesame Market

The government of Netherlands is to assist Ethiopia to become competitive in the global sesame market by supporting ongoing efforts in Amhara and Tigray regional States.

The Dutch government has allocated 1.9 million Euros for implementation of projects in sesame growing areas of the regional states for the coming three years.

Country Project Coordinator, Dr. Geremew Terefe said the project is aimed at making Ethiopia's sesame production competitive in the global market, especially in Europe and Japan. Dr. Geremew said the project is also providing capacity building training and technical support to over 14,000 farmers in the regions on new technologies and sesame production.

Experts, farmers, investors, government officials, unions and researchers drawn from the two regions and representatives from the government of Netherlands have taken part in the two-day forum.
