The Amhara Regional State has constructed 2115km road through the Universal Rural Road Access Project (URRAP) during the last nine months, the regional rural roads authority said. Public Relation officer with the Authority, Getenet Zewdu said on Wednesday that road is part of the 2,629 km roads planned to be constructed in this Ethiopian fiscal year.
The regional government allocated a total of over 1.5 billion Ethiopian Birr budget for construction of the road. He said efforts are underway to fully complete construction of the remaining work during the budget year. Construction of the road created nearly 39,000 job opportunities, according Getenet. URRAP is part of the Growth and Transformation Plan designed to interconnect rural localities.
