Federal Environment Protection Authority of Ethiopia and dVentus Technologies launched on Friday March 29, 2013 the first electric powered taxi pilot project.

It is sated that each of the taxis that are manufactured in the US has six batteries installed inside them which enable them to be driven over 50 kilo meters after only being charged once.

Federal Environment Protection Authority Director Tewolde G/Egziaber stated that these taxis will have an enormous positive effect on the environment as they reduce carbon dioxide emission.

After the pilot project in Adama, Mekele, Sekota and Deber Markos it is sated that the taxis will be manufactured by Metal Engineering Corporation in Ethiopia.
