Ethiopian MoI Planning to Establish Three Institutes

The Ethiopian Ministry of Industry said it has submitted a draft proclamation to the Council of Ministers for the establishment of three different institutes for various sectors as part of the government's plan to boost the manufacturing sector of Ethiopia.

The main objective of setting up the institutes is to help the government's endeavor to realizing the role the manufacturing sector plays in driving Ethiopia's economy.

Melaku Taye, corporate communications directorate director of the e MoI, told The Reporter that the proposed three institutes include Food, Drinks and Drug Industry Development institute, Chemical and Construction Inputs Industry Development institute and Industry Zone Corporation.

The Council of Ministers earlier in January officially approved the establishment of a Chemical Corporation.The corporation has been given the authority to own and run three of Ethiopia's major factories: Mugher Cement Enterprise, Rubber Tree National Nucleus Project and Coal Phosphate Fertilizer Complex Project.

In a related news, the MoI has awarded a 633 million birr contract to 13 Ethiopian construction firms to construct part of the Bole Lemi Industrial Zone that covers around 156 hectares of land which will be available to investors who are interested in establishing medium-and large-scale industries.
