The U.A.E based Falcon Petroleum Ltd is conducting a seismic survey of its Blue Nile Concession in Wereilu South Wollo Zone, Amhara National Regional State of Ethiopia.

Falcon Petroleum has contracted the Italian company,GeoDynamics Research to carry out the seismic survey. GeoDynamics is carrying out a passive seismic survey for the third time in Ethiopia. Previously the GeoDynamics had conducted two passive seismic surveys named Wereilu I and II.

The company said the latest survey is different from the previous two surveys for using a different data acquisition procedure.

“If it is possible to provide a 3D distribution of the compressional and shear velocities, which are directly related to the structures it may recognize typical features of oil traps,” the company said with regard to the objective of the survey.

Several international companies are currently carrying out petroleum exploration in different parts of Ethiopia. Africa Oil Ethiopia B.V., Calvalley Petroleum Inc., Epsilon Energy Ltd., Falcon Petroleum Ltd.,Southwest Energy, Tullow Oil, and Pexco Exploration (east Africa) N.V. are among some of the companies actively engaged in petroleum exploration in Ethiopia.
