FloSec, a swiss based company unveiled a technology for tracking goods and securing commercial transaction documents on Wednesday February 6th Hilton Addis, Ethiopia. Representatives of The Djibouti Port (DP), Ethiopian Government officials and representatives from the privates sector were present on the occasion.
According to Yves Baeumlin, a representative of FloSec, the technology helps to track import-export bound goods from shipment to its final destination using global positioning system and Radio Frequency (RFID). The technology has different layers of security and is also capable of integrating with other technologies.
Yves said, the system have a feature which activate an alarm if a seal is broken, the truck doesn’t follow the scheduled route, or if there is an attempt to open a valve or box.FloSec stated that, its logistic tracking and security system has additional features compared to other logistic technologies used by many ports. The additional feature proposed by FloSec includes a feature allowing customers to track all documents in addition to those which are accompanying the goods.
Yves also stated that, the technology is in its final development stage and will go operational very soon.
Export bound good from Ethiopia are often prone to document falsification, pilfering and delay in delivery and docking. One participant fascinated by the technology expressed her hope in exposing and preventing pilfering and adulteration of goods on the Ethiopia-Djibouti route.
