Addis Chamber Holds General Meeting

The Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association held its General Assembly meeting at the Hilton Hotel. The meeting focused on discussing the by the successful transformation process undertaken by the Chamber.

The General Assembly meeting which was attended by representatives of the city’s business community was opened by  Kuma Demeksa, mayor of Addis Ababa.

The city chamber of commerce has now devised a five year plan to offer a wide range of services to the whole business community according to Ayalew Zegeye, president of the AACCA. The implementation of this plan is already underway, he added.

AACCA is also taking part plans to construct a new facility, the ‘Addis Africa International Convention and Conference Center’ in the CMC area of the capital. The Addis Ababa City Administration has invested 33 million birr to finance the construction of the center while the AACCA has contributed 10 million according to sources.

The Chamber has plans to establish a Policy Advocacy and Research Center that will help develop research based policy ideas which come from the private sector as optional policies for Ethiopia. This effort includes plans to establish a training center to expand the training of its members.

It is to be remembered that the Chamber has received 70 million birr in support from The Netherlands Embassy to be used to fund the formation of Agri-Business Support Facility, which is one of the programs currently being managed under its auspices.
