A national action plan on land registration and certification is to be launched in Ethiopia. It is said that the plan, intended to help landowners to obtain land and property rights, was prepared at a cost of 30 million pounds.
The financing for the project was secured from the Department for International Development, US Agency for International Development.
The plan was prepared in a collaborated effort of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and US Agency for International Development –Ethiopia.
The latest pilot of the project will culminate at the end of January of 2013, with a tender for consultancy service issued and four consulting firms being screened out for the last round of the competition according to the USAID.The project is said to have four major components. The first component is stated to be the strengthening of land administration systems and land policies. The second component is about certifying the land of the farmers to secure and invest their money on productivity.
The third component is creating awareness about the implementation. Finally the fourth component is about capacity building and coordination. Currently certification has been made feasible in three regions in Oromiya, in Amhara, and Tigray.
