ESLE to Restructure

The Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Enterprise is planning to implement a restructure to split is services into four divisions following its recent amalgamation according to sources.

The restructure is in the process of implementation in the dry port, transport and shipping sectors said sources within the enterprise.

The four divisions that the new structure will implement will include logistics, shipping, terminal and supportive in a bid to speed up the services offered by the enterprise. It is expected that management for the logistics and terminal divisions will be externally appointed while the other two divisions, shipping and supportive will be handled by existing staff said sources.

The enterprise established in the last financial year to exclusively handle the multimodal shipping process failed to meet the demands of the national import and export sector and has recently reintroduced the unimodal scheme once more.

The government is considering other possibilities including options to allow for private sector involvement said sources.

It is to be remembered that the enterprise was considering a restructuring scheme that called for it to split in to two general sectors, shipping and logistics, to be headed by two vice executives to be appointed by the board last June. This proposal however failed to acquire the approval of the board.
