Ethiopia is to introduce a new customs proclamation designed to ease and modernize the custom processes in the country.
The Ethiopian Revenue and Custom Authority has already finalized the work required to amend the custom laws in an effort to simplify customs procedures according to Melaku Fenta, Director General of the Authority.
The amendment will be put before the Council of Ministers and the Parliament soon for final approval he said.
It is expected that new law will introduce structural adjustments in how the authority functions and in human resource management.
The new law will also target decentralizing ERCA’s activities, ensuring the free movement of goods for organizations designated Authorized Economic Operators, and to ease Post Clearance Audits it was noted.The authority is ready to authorize more agents in different parts of the nation after contributing the real contribution to the economy in addition to their compliance with the authorities, guidelines and procedures said Melaku.
The new arrangement allows each imported product to have its own branch with for example a structural branch with goods designated for industrial engagement, explained Eshetu Dessie Deputy Director General of the authority.
