The 15th conference of the Cooperation of Urban Mobility in the Developing World was launched in Ethiopia this week.
The conference is being held under the theme of the ‘Role of Urban Mobility in (Re) Shaping Cities.’The conference comprises of a range of different activities including a photo exhibition according to sources.
The conference is intended to showcase the transport and urban development activities taking place in the country said Engineer Fekade Haile, General Manager of the Addis Ababa City Roads Authority.
CODATU is about enhancing activities related with the expansion of public transportation and the construction of alternative means of transport such as the light railway underway in Addis Ababa he said.The conference also plays an important role in promoting the investment and trade potential of the country as well as the various tourist attractions according to Fekade.
This year’s conference is being held against the backdrop of the 125th Anniversary of the founding of Addis Ababa and underscores the current level of development as well as prospects for the future.
The conference will be held until the 25th of October and has attracted an estimated 700 participants from 30 countries across the Globe.
CODATU is a non profit organization with an intenration vocation to promote international dialogue between different stakeholders in the transport and urban mobility sectors. It was established in 1980 following a seminal international conference on urban transport in Dakar, Senegal.
