Indonesia Interested in Increasing Ties with Ethiopia

Indonesia is interested in increasing ties with Ethiopia in a range of investment sectors. The strong and friendly ties between the two countries can serve as basis of increasing economic ties in spite of the poor global economic situation said Ramli Saud,

Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia speaking at the event held to commemorate the 67th Independence of the country held at the Ambassadorial residence.

The relationship between the two countries is based on three pillars that of government to government, business to business and people to people he said.

It is to be remembered that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Indonesia and Ethiopia to foster cooperation in the business and technical sectors noted Saud.

The Embassy is working to create cultural ties between the people of the two countries and is offering classes on the Indonesian languages he added.

The volume of trade between the two countries is increasing reaching 106 million US dollars in 2011 up for just 78 million in 2010.

Indonesia imports soybeans, oil seeds and leather from Ethiopia while exporting automobiles, edible oil and other products to the Ethiopian market.

The diplomatic relations between the two country’s has developed over the last four decades to encompass cultural, economic and political cooperation.
