Ethiopian Airlines to Enhance Cargo Services

Ethiopian Airlines is to improve cargo services to increase foreign trade in the country. The airline is in the process of constructing a cargo terminal with the capacity to handle 1.2 million tons of cargo as part of its ambition to improve the services according to the Public Relations Office of the airline.

The construction of the terminal will be carried out in two phases.

Ethiopian will also plan to construct a cold warehouse in the next four months to aid in efforts to develop cargo services.

Ethiopian transported more than 110,000 tons of goods in just the last year increasing the revenue obtained in the fiscal year and surpassing the amount earned in the previous tear by 18% explained the Public Relations Office.

The airline is planning to increase the volume of cargo it transports to 710,000 tons by 2025.

Ethiopian Airlines currently operates more than 40 cargo destinations across Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East through its center, Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa and another hub at Liege, Airport in Belgium.

The airline has more than 60 years of experience in freight transporting a range of goods from perishables to industrial products. The most common cargo goods from Ethiopia are frozen meats, leather products, flowers, carpets, chilled meat, rugs, frozen fish and fruits and vegetables.

Imports transported by Ethiopian include chemicals, spare parts, equipment, machinery, medicines, teas and garments.
