British Midland International to Suspend Flights to Heathrow

British Midland International is to suspend its flight between Heathrow and Bole International Airport, Ethiopia as of the 11th of June.

The last flight to travel from Heathrow to Bole will be on Sunday 10th of June with the return flight scheduled for Monday 11th June said the press release from the airline.

BMI notified ticket agents of the suspension on the 25th of May with travel agents told to accommodate passengers on alternative flights for flight scheduled before June 10-11 or to give full refunds it was learned.

The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, has been notified for BMI’s decision and the authority is expected to allocate BMI’s landing slots, manpower and logistics at Bole International Airport to other airlines explained Endashaw Yegezu, Air Transport Director at the ECAA.

The Airline is suspending flights for commercial reasons according to the release which did not elaborate further.

Trade Path International plc, BMI representative in Ethiopia views the suspension as a precaution against ticket agents booking passengers for flights that are not guaranteed.

Executives from Trade Path will be flying to London in early June to conduct final talks on the future of the flights and other issues.

BMI will also be suspending flights from London to Damascus at the same time as it will be suspending flights between Heathrow and Bole.

The airline made the decision to suspend these flights soon after BMI was bought by the International Consolidated Airlines Group. IAG has plans to integrate BMI with British Airways changing flight codes on nine BMI routes to BA since the 23rd of May.
