Ethiopia and Vietnam discussed collaboration on Ethiopia’s accession to the World Trade Organization when Le Luong Minh made a visit to Ethiopia this week.

A team of technical experts from Ethiopia had previously visited Vietnam for advice on World Trade negotiations. The team also discussed ways to enhance trade in agriculture and textiles.

One area of potential collaboration is the pharmaceutical sector and Ethiopian companies are invited to attend an exhibition being held for importers and exporters in Hanoi said Do Huu Huy Deputy Director for West Africa of the Marketing Department of the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Main areas of cooperation between the two countries could include high value horticulture, agricultural products, textile and leather garments and livestock and meat products to be exported to Vietnam according Yakob Yala, Ethiopian State Minister of Trade.

Free market access through the African Growth and Opportunity Act of the United States and the Everything But Arms  treaty of the EU offer significant opportunities between the two countries he said.
