Ethiopian Quality Awards to Honor Nine Organizations

The Ethiopian Quality Awards organization will honor nine organizations selected for excellence in Ethiopia. The award ceremony will be held on Sunday April 8 at the Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel.

The nine organizations to be awarded the excellence trophy will be announced on the day of the event said Dr. Admasu Tsegaye, Board Chairman of EQA.

150 organizations expressed an initial interest in the competition this year and took application forms he noted. The competition was open to those in manufacturing and construction sectors as well as both for profit and non profit service providers.

The technical committee conducted preliminary assessments and field visits on organizations taking part before 36 organizations passed to the second round explained Dr. Admasu.

The Award is based on the result of the evaluation process and the applicant’s performance as seen against the excellence model according to Sultan Mohammed, Chairman of the Technical Committee.

Organizations participating in the competition have an opportunity for promotion as well as to enhance their quality and become more competitive through the assessment process which allows them to review their strengths and weakness through the feedback summary that they receive from EQA said Dr. Admassu.

The awards will include appreciation and participation certificates, merit awards and the excellence award.

EQA was founded in January 2008 as a collaborative effort between Addis Ababa University and Walta Information Center. It held its first national awards in 2009 with the Documents Authentication and Registration Office, MIDROC Gold mine and Harar Brewery as the first awardees.
