Ethiopia Investigating License for Alliance Media

The Investment Agency in Ethiopia is investigating the operations of Alliance Media to evaluated if it operating as per its license.

The agency is assessing if the South African company is manufacturing billboard panels as per its license said Tewodros Tamiru, Director of the Legal Directorate with the EIA.

Allegations have been rife that Alliance is engaged in advertising activities by renting the panels it has erected across the city for advertisement purposes, a sector reserved for Ethiopian nationals.

The revised investment law to be presented to the Cabinet in the near future will establish that promotional works and media are limited to citizens in a more defined manner then the current law said Tewdros.

EIA has launched investigations after receiving a letter that claimed Alliance to be engaged in promotional works and has thus far established that it is engaged in the manufacture of billboard panels he noted.

The Ministry of Trade will revoke the company’s license should it discover to be engaging in other business then what it is stipulated by the license explained Tewdros.

Alliance Media was unable to respond to the allegations because its representative is outside of the country at the present.
