Ethiopia: ERA Signed Contract with Two Companies for Road Construction Projects

The Ethiopian Roads Authority signed a contract with HAWK International Finance and Construction Co.LTD and China Railway No.3 Engineering Group Co. Ltd. for the construction of Gedo-Fincha-Lemlem Bereha and Sanja-Keraker road projects, The Ethiopian Herald reported.

The Gedo-Fincha-Lemlem Bereha road upgrading project was awarded to HAWK International Finance and Construction Co.LTD. The project is located in West Shewa and Horogudru zones of the Oromia state.

The road begins at the junction on the Addis-Nekempt-Asosa trunk road at Gedo town, about 175 Kms west of Addis Ababa. The road then proceeds in the Northern direction towards a junction to Kombolcha locally known as Mana Benga.

The 1,142,567,661.24 birr project consists of construction of 80.5 Km length of the the road to DS4 standard of asphalt concrete with carriageway width of 7.0m outside town and 12m width in town sections.

The second project, the construction and completion of Sanja- Keraker road is awarded to China Railway No.3 Engineering Group Co. LTD.

The project is located in North Gondar Zone of Amhara state. The construction consists of 47.9 Kms of the road to DS4 standard of DBST with carriageway width the same as the first project. Some 30- kms of the project has already been constructed up to the sub-base gravel wearing level. The total cost of the project is 786,796,548.12 birr.

The agreement was signed by Authority Director General Zaid Wolde-Gebriel, Mr. Mohammad Ahmed Hezam, Hawk International Finance, Construction Co.LTD President and Mr. Xu Wei, Assistant General manager of Ethiopia Branch Office of China Railway No.3 Engineering Group Co. LTD.
