The Ethio-Djibouti Railway (EDR) SC is undergoing a major structural transformation into a holding company, supported by a new World Bank-funded initiative. This move aims to strengthen its role in railway operations, logistics, and engineering across Africa’s transport sector.

The cross border railway stretching from Ethiopia to Djibouti, Ethio-Djibouti Railway Line, is set to start operation by November 8, 2017.
The Ethio-Djibouti railway has seen a significant increase in revenue in the 2022/2023 fiscal year, earning Birr 3.3 billion. This is a 35% increase from the previous period. The railway transported 2.1 million tonnes of cargo and 124,000 passengers during the year.
